Cloud House Invitational Golf Tournament
The Cloud House Invitational is a golf tournament with a long (5 years) history on the island. It is played late in August on an ad hoc, 7 hole, par 3, "golf course". The course is played on tall grass, that has been brush hogged down so putting is out of the question. Chipping your ball within the length of your wedge is "in the hole". At most, participants will need two clubs, and many more golf balls. We have found that orange golf balls are most easily located.
The first year (2021) of this event there were three groups that played, and around 8-10 total participants for the golf and cookout following. The next year (2022) we saw a steep increase in attendence, as the word went around, with approximately 30 people showing up for golf and/or the cookout. The addition of a roving drink cart was a significant upgrade as well. Year 3 was a bust due to several cancelations due to rain. Year 4 saw a resumption of the festivities, which included a catering setup and the first awarding of the coveted "lobster vest" for the low score.
Year 5 provided an exciting finish, with two participants tied for low score (a new course record). The tie was broken with a closest-to-the-pin shootout on the first hole. Also notable was the first awarding of a prize for lowest womens score.
